Brenda Bertin began studying watercolor five years ago with Pierrette Voghel of the Musee des Beaux Arts de Mont-St.-Hilaire, Quebec.  Workdays in Quebec were spent at her ceramic tile design and manufacturing studio, for about 17 years, and prior to that, in Port Washington. New York for about 15 years.  The tiles made in Quebec were sold through Ann Sacks Tile and Stone, a mass marketing firm.  The tiles made in New York were for specific projects such as the New Jersey Statehouse restoration, restoration of landmark buildings in Strawberry Square, Harrisburg Pennsylvania, exterior and interior friezes for buildings in Central Park (the Cafe, the Charles A. Dana Discovery Center, and preliminary work on the Bethesda Arcade ceiling) and a tile frieze for a children’s park on the Harlem River, one of Bette Midler’s park restoration projects.

At present I love painting en plein air with the Columbia County plein air artists.  It’s especially important to capture light, movement of trees and water, and true coloration.
